I've been a bit busy this week. Not as busy as the fantastic Mrs B. She popped out this little critter a couple of days ago - we're pretty proud of ourselves so please excuse my constant goofy grin.

I consider myself "average-looking" as I suppose most people would probably say themselves "I'm average-looking" if asked to their face.. At least on average. But according to this weird (probably German) study, average faces are the most attractive... or something.

Anyone who has administered an office full of Outlook clients (not Exchange mind you) will know the fun that ensues when a user hits the magic 2Gb email limit...

It kinda goes like this...

dude: My email isn't working.
me: Dude, your PST file is bigger than 2Gb.
dude: So?
me: That's the limit, sorry.
dude: Can you fix it?
me: Sorta, but you'll lose some emails...
dude: Which ones? Like the latest ones?
me: Can't say. Maybe.
dude: How did this happen? I frequently delete my old mails.
me: Doesn't matter.
dude: What!? Why?
me: dunno. I'll install Thunderbird if you like?
dude: Nah I hate that program, some websites won't work in it.
me: Right.

I went to Nando's last week for lunch and bought myself one of their Supremo burger meals with couscous. They cost about $50 but it's totally worth it if you add the bacon and avocado extras.
Anyway I rushed back to the office to eat, sat down and opened the box and found they had forgotten something.
Inside the box was all the ingredients of the chicken burger (chicken breast, lettuce, bacon, avocado and their own wacky E621-flavoured chilli sauce.. Just no bun.
I actually thought to myself for a split second "Maybe the bun fell out".

Ok, I have a theory - bare with me.

I think the wolf whistle is a evolutionary safety measure for building sites. See when one workman whistles they ALL stop and look. This means there is no chance of accidental dismemberment as would be the case if just a few workers stopped to watch the scrumpet walk past. Maybe I will write to Richard Dawkins and suggest he put this in his next book.

You know when you're PC crashes and burns and you have to reinstall EVERYTHING and you denounce God and a little part of the good inside you dies?
There is a bright side to this... You can get back to basics and install a nice clean system with JUST the stuff you want.
So here are a few gems I've collected over the years and have always come back to -

Openwide
This is my favourite... It modifies your open and save dialog boxes in Windows so that they start in 'details' mode.
This means you can quickly sort your files by date or whatever. It also lets you specify the size and location of the dialogs on your screen.

Great fast image viewer with some editing features. This is what ACDSee used to be before it got massive and slow.
There's even a Pocket PC version available.

USBDLM
This little tool lets you specify what drive letter your USB devices get assigned when you plug them in. You can use all sorts of rules or just say 'Start at x:' etc.

Just an email grabbing client thingy. Can check all your email accounts at once. Good if you're at work and don't have web access to Gmail etc.
